No entanto, embora a ambição de criar lugares de presença cívica duradoura nas cidades e vilas de hoje possa parecer óbvia, apresenta desafios significativos. Utilizando os domínios dos vários estudos de caso, as observações naturalistas dos participantes e as consultas activas com os inquiridos-alvo, os princípios da flexibilidade são explorados em profundidade. Esta investigação centra-se na investigação e na aplicação de um sistema de programação de tais espaços - espaços que possuem uma capacidade intrínseca de se adaptarem às aspirações em constante mudança da população, aproveitando múltiplas oportunidades de conversação, partilha de informação, espectáculos, celebrações e jogos, quer a curto, médio e/ou longo prazo.
