A pessoa com deficiência e a inclusão escolar são temas que a autora tem direcionado em seus estudos e pesquisas. Frequentemente, são percebidas as dificuldades entre pais e mães, alunos e alunas, professores e professoras, além da sociedade como um todo, no que se refere à inclusão da criança com deficiência na escola regular. O conteúdo deste livro tem como objetivo refletir sobre algumas temáticas que envolvem esta questão. São abordadas as leis das novas/velhas diretrizes da inclusão escolar da pessoa com deficiência, tendo em vista um estudo de caso acompanhado por dois anos, desde o primeiro dia de uma criança de 6 anos, com paralisia cerebral, em uma escola regular.Assim, são trazidas as dificuldades e os benefícios enfrentados por todos os envolvidos, além de uma observação da mesma questão vivenciada pela autora em Portugal.
