A partire dagli anni ’60, le principali chiese protestanti in Germania, Stati Uniti e Regno Unito hanno sviluppato una politicizzazione di sinistra. Questo studio indaga se, in queste condizioni, il protestantesimo tradizionale sia ancora compatibile con il conservatorismo. A tal fine, confronta le concezioni della religione e della Chiesa di tre autori conservatori e protestanti: Hermann Lübbe, Richard Neuhaus e Michael Oakeshott. Il risultato mostra tre varianti: immanentizzazione e politicizzazione del protestantesimo per Lübbe; immanentizzazione del protestantesimo da parte della teologia liberale senza la sua politicizzazione per Oakeshott; né immanentizzazione né politicizzazione del protestantesimo, ma continuazione di una teologia tradizionale e del suo ruolo per la Chiesa per Neuhaus.
