Die Republik Kroatien verfügt über ein enormes Potenzial für die Entwicklung des Gesundheitstourismus und die Anziehung sogenannter Medizintouristen, da sie ein wohltuendes Klima, hochwertige Unterbringungskapazitäten, eine hochwertige und innovative medizinische Infrastruktur, kompetentes medizinisches Personal und äußerst wettbewerbsfähige Behandlungspreise bieten kann. In jüngerer Zeit hat sich auch der Beitritt Kroatiens zur Europäischen Union als bedeutender Faktor erwiesen. Leider wurden diese Potenziale aufgrund verschiedener rechtlicher Hindernisse und Unregelmäßigkeiten sowie des Fehlens einer einheitlichen Strategie zur Entwicklung des Gesundheitstourismus auf staatlicher Ebene nicht voll ausgeschöpft. Der Markt für Gesundheitstourismus wird auf 38 bis 55 Milliarden US-Dollar geschätzt. Dies stellt eine große Herausforderung dar, bietet aber auch zahlreiche Möglichkeiten für zahlreiche private und öffentliche Gesundheitseinrichtungen in Kroatien, die in den Bereichen Ästhetik, Orthopädie, Wirbelsäulen- und Neurochirurgie, Physiotherapie und Rehabilitation sowie Zahnmedizin tätig sind.
