Der Einfluss sozioökonomischer Faktoren auf die Schulleistungen führt, wie mit der EVES-Studie gezeigt wird, bereits in der Grundschule zur systematischen Benachteiligung von Schülerinnen und Schülern aus bildungsfernen Milieus. Des Weiteren erstaunt die Stabilität der Niveauunterschiede beim Schriftspracherwerb zwischen den einzelnen Grundschulkassen. Auch wenn sich diese in ihren soziographischen, sozioökonomischen und individuellen Merkmalen der Kinder ähneln, bestehen bereits am Ende der 1. Klasse erhebliche Unterschiede in den Lese- und Rechtschreibleistungen. Diese teilweise enorme Variation ist im Wesentlichen durch Unterrichtsmerkmale bedingt.
