Endometriosis is a pathology in which the endometrium is found outside the uterine cavity. The causes are still not very well established, as well as there is a difficulty in diagnosis, because of the nonspecificity of the clinical picture. In industrialized countries, it is one of the main causes of gynecological hospitalization, and in Brazil, it affects around six million Brazilian women. There are several clinical manifestations, such as dysmenorrhea, intestinal changes during the menstrual period, dyspaurenia and dysuria. Women who have endometriosis are more likely to be infertile, thus, there is a need to rethink the practices that are used for diagnosis and also the treatment for the disease, and with this, it is important to have the support of family members and professionals, because there are great emotional impacts. This study was conducted as an integrative review of qualitative literature on the topic of endometriosis.
