So wird die Bevölkerung der meisten Industriestaaten innerhalb der ersten Hälfte des 21. Jahrhunderts zunächst altern und anschließend zusätzlich abnehmen. In den Medien ist der demografische Wandel beinahe täglich ein Thema und die Unternehmen stehen zunehmend unter Druck. Junge Fachkräfte werden immer weniger und der Altersdurchschnitt innerhalb der Unternehmen steigt stetig. Die Suche nach qualifiziertem Personal sowie die Bewältigung des demografischen Wandels sind die bedeutendsten Themen für die Personalmanager in den kommenden 10 Jahren . Bei der Einsatzplanung der älteren Mitarbeiter kommt die Frage auf, wie man dieses Problem unter Gesichtspunkten der Wirtschaftlichkeit und Humanisierung bewältigen kann.
