HERZOG (1982: 9) hat in seinem Buch über politische Führungsgruppen zu Recht den Mangel an Lehrbüchern und Forschungsübersichten zur Elitefor­ schung beklagt und diesbezüglich eine Lücke im Forschungsprozeß konstatiert. Das vorliegende Buch will dazu beitragen, daß diese Lücke geschlossen wird. Mit dieser Monographie werden v.a. zwei Ziele verfolgt: Zum einen soll der Leser darüber informiert werden, welche Elitebegriffe die bundesdeutsche Elitefor­ schung geprägt, welche Methoden sie zur Untersuchung der Elite in Deutschland verwendet und welche Modelle der westdeutschen Elite sie erarbeitet hat. Dar­ über hinaus sollen dem Leser die wichtigsten Fakten über die bundesdeutschen und internationalen Eliten und Gegeneliten vermittelt werden. Zum andern wird mit diesem Buch versucht, am Beispiel der bundesdeutschen Eliteforschung die Fruchtbarkeit wissenschaftstheoretischer Konzepte zur Analyse und Kritik objekt­ wissenschaftlicher Begriffe, Modelle und Methoden zu demonstrieren. Ich danke dem Teubner Verlag und v.a. Prof. SAHNER für die positive Beurtei­ lung meiner Arbeit und ihre Aufnahme in die Studienskripten zur Soziologie.
