En septiembre de 1910 llegó al putumayo el irlandés Roger Casement, designado por la cancillería británica para investigar las acusaciones contra la Peruvian Amazon Company, más conocida como la Casa Arana, por el maltrato a las poblaciones indígenas y el terror que sembraba entre ellas. Tras una juiciosa investigación, Casement produjo un impactante documento que publicó el Parlamento Británico, el cual se conoció como el Informe Casement o el Informe del Putumayo. Los hallazgos de Casement son fundamentales para nuestra historia amazónica, ya que permiten conocer y entender la explotación cauchera y el holocausto indígena de las primeras tres décadas del siglo XX, en lo que hoy en día es el Predio Putumayo. El paraíso del diablo. Roger Casement y el Informe del Putumayo, un siglo después conmemora la publicación del Informe al reconocer cómo este impactó de manera crucial la historia del Amazonas y de sus habitantes. A partir de aproximaciones novedosas se concilian las perspectivas académicas con las de quienes son herederos de las víctimas –y tal vez de los victimarios– del etnocidio cauchero.
