El flujo de la plata potosina está en los orígenes de la primera globalización temprana del mundo cuyos flujos llegaban hasta China. De ahí que su imagen se expandiera en Europa, llegando incluso al Imperio otomano. La minería de la plata para el mundo entretejió extensas regiones del Virreinato del Perú primero, y del Virreinato de La Plata, después. El imperio del trabajo pone, en primer plano, la producción de esa plata para el mundo: el “cordón industrial” de los azogueros, los procesos desde la extracción hasta el beneficio y la obtención de barras de plata, a lo largo de una cadena productiva. Potosí fue producto de la mita de miles de campesinos que desde sus comunidades y ayllus permitieron esa globalización, pero que también remodelaron los términos de trabajo, con mujeres que atraviesan todos los espacios, y con la emergencia y consolidación de una economía popular de producción en pequeña escala de k’ajchas y trapicheros/as de múltiples orígenes. Recorrer esta historia es enfrentarse, simultáneamente, a las exigencias del trabajo minero, a los cambios e innovaciones tecnológicos, a la gran división del trabajo, a la coerción y a la violencia pero también, y simultáneamente, a los recursos de poder en manos indígenas, a su capacidad de disrupción del proceso productivo, a su aporte en la minería de léxicos aymaras y quechuas, a su inserción en las rutas de mercado con sus carneros y sus trajines. La vigilancia y el control fueron anhelados pero nunca logrados. Es, finalmente, mirarnos en el espejo de los orígenes de una conformación que nos ha modelado como economía y como sociedad. 10
