In diesem Buch wird der Einsatz und die Nutzung von Geschichtsschulbüchern im österreichischen Schulsystem im Bereich der Sekundarstufe I untersucht und es werden Einblicke aus der Perspektive von Lehrenden und Lernenden präsentiert. Damit gelingt es den Autoren, die österreichische Situation anhand einer quantitativen Untersuchung erstmalig breiter zu beleuchten. Sie verwerten die Ergebnisse von Befragungen von über 1.000 Lernenden und ca. 300 Lehrkräften und verknüpfen die sich ergebenden Einsichten zum Arbeiten mit historischen Quellen, Darstellungen der Vergangenheit und einer fachspezifischen Kompetenzorientierung mit geschichtsdidaktischen Debatten.
