Gli studi sulla deposizione di particelle nelle vie aeree umane sono estremamente importanti per caratterizzare i rischi dell’esposizione alle particelle aerodisperse, sviluppare metodi di trattamento farmacologico efficaci per le malattie croniche delle vie aeree e valutare la dosimetria per l’igiene del lavoro e i trattamenti medicinali. In questo libro, sono state eseguite analisi di fluidodinamica computazionale (CFD) su un modello di vie aeree superiori con diverse velocità di flusso inspiratorio laminare e turbolento. Le caratteristiche del flusso d’aria e la distribuzione della pressione sono state analizzate di conseguenza. Inoltre, è stato utilizzato un approccio lagrangiano per esaminare il trasporto e la deposizione delle microparticelle iniettate attraverso le vie aeree nasali. È emerso che la morfologia delle vie aeree superiori influisce notevolmente sull’andamento del flusso d’aria e sulla frazione di deposizione delle microparticelle. L’analisi delle frazioni di deposito locali ha dimostrato che le vie aeree superiori svolgono un ruolo significativo nel filtrare le particelle di microdimensioni.
