Um dos maiores e mais influentes desafios dos países e dos sistemas económicos é alcançar os objectivos pretendidos de prosperidade e emprego, o que é conseguido através das políticas monetária e fiscal no domínio macroeconómico. O principal objetivo das políticas monetárias e fiscais é o crescimento económico e o aumento das receitas públicas e da oferta agregada. As políticas monetárias, que são adoptadas pelo banco central, alteram a oferta de moeda através de alterações na taxa de reserva exigida pelos bancos, alterações na taxa de desconto e operações de mercado aberto. A política orçamental também é definida com base nos instrumentos de despesa pública e nas taxas de imposto. Entretanto, o indicador de referência do hiato do produto é utilizado para analisar os ciclos económicos (a diferença entre o produto real e o produto potencial). O presente estudo é realizado para avaliar os efeitos assimétricos dos choques das políticas monetária e orçamental nos ciclos económicos, no período de 1976-2014, utilizando ARDL no Irão. Os resultados sugerem que as políticas monetária e orçamental afectam os ciclos económicos no Irão e que os efeitos das políticas orçamentais positivas são maiores do que os efeitos das políticas monetárias.
