Um material funcionalmente graduado (FGM) é um material avançado capaz de produzir uma gradação dos seus constituintes ao longo do componente, utilizando a técnica de fabrico e a diferença de densidade dos seus constituintes. Atualmente, tem uma vasta aplicabilidade em diferentes indústrias, uma vez que este material pode ser desenvolvido com uma funcionalidade específica, apresentando a propriedade necessária numa determinada zona. O tratamento térmico permitiu melhorar ainda mais o desempenho mecânico e tribológico de um compósito. Este livro descreve uma nova abordagem para o desenvolvimento de um compósito de FGM de cobre que pode resolver alguns dos principais desafios enfrentados pela indústria moderna de veículos eléctricos - os problemas de corrosão interfacial dos rolamentos eléctricos, requisitos de leveza dos metais, desafios de corrosão, etc. O estudo do material em condições controladas de deslizamento a seco mostra o seu desempenho nas condições reais de trabalho. O efeito dos reforços cerâmicos também é estudado, incluindo SEM, micrografias e XRD.
