15살 때 하버드 법대 출신의 미국무부 외교관인 아버지를 따라간 아시아의 작은 국가 ’타니야’에서 7살의 자스민 공주를 운명적으로 만난다. 미소 냉전기에 구소련의 침공으로 멸망하기 직전의 타니야는 소련의 동아시아 팽창을 위해 전략적으로 중요한 길목이었다. 미국은 소련의 패권 확장을 저지하기 위해 타니야에 긴급히 미국대사관을 신설한다. 결국 갑작스런 침공으로 타니야는 멸망했고 자스민은 소련으로 납치돼 1급 국제 스파이로 성장한다. 소련이 붕괴되자 소련연방 회복을 위해 투입된 국제 스파이 자스민은 미국의 첨단군사기술과 핵무기들을 탈취하고 주요 핵기지들을 폭파시킨다. 3차 세계대전 발발을 위해 유럽에서 나토의 군사력을 무력화하고 핵탄두를 러시아로 밀반입하다 적발돼 국제형사재판소에 회부되어 사형이 선고된다. 미외교관직을 사임한 후 국제변호사로 돌아와 국제형사재판소에서 그녀의 변론을 맡게 되고 러시아에 볼모로 잡혀 있던 5살짜리 친딸을 살해한 정신병력이 소급되어 병보석으로 풀려난다. 보스턴 인근의 나한트 섬에서 감호, 감시 대상이 되지만 태풍이 치던 어느날 밤 그녀는 일기 한권을 남기고 자살한다.
