Edwin Arlington Robinson (1869-1935) gilt als einer der ersten modernen amerikanischen Dichter, der trotz seiner lebenslangen Verbundenheit mit der traditionellen Form inhaltlich sehr modern war. Robinson war einer der ersten amerikanischen Dichter, der über gewöhnliche Menschen und Ereignisse schrieb.
