Duże trudności w procesie nauczania i uczenia się treści chemicznych, z jakimi boryka się większość uczniów, zwłaszcza w szkole średniej, często przypisuje się rozbieżności między wiedzą chemiczną zdobytą w szkole a jej zastosowaniem w sytuacjach, z jakimi uczniowie spotykają się na co dzień. W obliczu tej rzeczywistości i w oparciu o potrzebę opracowania tematów dotyczących kwestii środowiskowych na lekcjach chemii, niniejsze badanie miało na celu pokazanie możliwości włączenia tematu „Śmieci a recykling' do lekcji chemii w szkolnictwie podstawowym. W tym celu zastosowano metodologię opartą na eksperymentach, połączoną z czytaniem i omawianiem artykułów, które umożliwiałyby uświadomienie sobie kwestii środowiskowych poprzez wiedzę chemiczną. Oczekuje się, że przedstawione tu propozycje pracy mogą służyć jako podstawa i inspiracja dla nauczycieli zainteresowanych udoskonaleniem swoich metod nauczania, a także poprawą wyników i osiągnięć swoich uczniów, zwłaszcza w dziedzinie chemii.
