Reforms in the public sector preach the use of e-government and e-governance practices and may be able to increase improvements in the socio-economic conditions of municipalities and the efficient use of public resources. The aim of this study is to discuss: Are Brazil’s most populous municipalities complying with e-governance practices in line with current legislation and being efficient in the distribution of public resources? In order to elucidate the problem, a sample of Brazilian municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants was gathered to verify the compliance of their websites with the e-governance practices most remembered in the literature and with current legislation. The average score of the municipalities in the sample was 44.92%, which indicates the inefficiency of governments to disclose information to society in a transparent manner.
