Torsten Lichtenau zeigt theoretisch und anhand von Fallstudien aus der Chemiebranche, dass sich das Internet bisher sowohl positiv - durch Verstärkung der zwischenbetrieblichen Zusammenarbeit - als auch negativ - durch Erhöhung der Preistransparenz und Verwässerung der Bedeutung von Marken - auf die Intensität von Geschäftsbeziehungen auswirkt. Es wird zudem deutlich, dass bestehende Intermediäre durch das Internet nur wenig tangiert werden, dass aber neue Intermediationspotenziale entstehen, z.B. zur Schaffung von Markttransparenz und zur Integration der verschiedenen Marktteilnehmer.
