Dyes and pigments are highly visible in the environment, and solutions are needed to limit their discharge, particularly in the textile industry. Current purification methods, though varied, remain costly and less efficient than synthetic dyes. This book proposes a sustainable alternative by chemically modifying insoluble dyes through glycoconjugation with sugars such as lactose, galactose and glucose. This approach improves their hydrophilicity, enabling more environmentally-friendly dyeing without surfactants or high temperatures, while optimizing their affinity with different textiles and reducing waste. What’s more, the use of carbohydrates derived from biomass and the possibility of degradation by microorganisms or enzymes reinforce their impact.
