Doña Urraca de Castilla de Francisco Navarro Villoslada, se ambienta en el reino de Galicia, hacia el año 1116. El territorio está dividido en tres bandos: el de la reina doña Urraca de Castilla y de León; el de su marido Alfonso el Batallador, rey de Aragón y de Navarra; y el de Alfonso Raimúndez, hijo de doña Urraca y de su primer esposo, el conde Raimundo de Borgoña. Según una cláusula del testamento de Alfonso VI, el reino correspondería a su nieto, el joven Alfonso, si su madre contrajese segundas nupcias, cosa que ya ha acontecido. Don Alfonso Raimúndez, el legítimo heredero, intenta hacer valer su derecho al trono, y su reivindicación es apoyada por el obispo de Santiago, don Diego Gelmírez, y por el conde don Pedro de Trava. Este es el fondo histórico de la novela, donde personajes reales y ficticios se mezclan en una trama de mucho interés para el lector contemporáneo.
