In der Mitte des Jahres 1989 wurde die Internationale Norm' Office Doc­ ument Architecture (ODA) and Interchange Format' von der ISO (In­ ternational Organization for Standardization) mit der Registriernummer ISO 8613 veroffentlicht. Eine im wesentlichen inhaltsgleiche Recommen­ dation des CCITT (Comite Consultatif International Telegraphique et Telephonique) wurde im Herbst 1988 in der-T. 410er Reihe mit dem Titel ' Open Document Architecture (ODA) and Interchange Format' verab­ schiedet. Diese Normen wurden fiir den elektronischen Austausch von Doku­ menten entwickelt, die in digitaler Form erfaBt sind. Dabei ist vorrangig, aber nicht ausschlieBlich an solche Dokumente gedacht, die iiblicherweise im Biirobereich erstellt werden, etwa Briefe, Vermerke, Berichte, Vertdige oder Rechnungen. E$ solI sichergestellt sein, daB der Empfanger ein sol­ ches Dokument in der vom Absender beabsichtigten Form auf Papier oder auf einem Bildschirm wiedergeben, aber auch weiterverarbeiten kann, etwa indem er Inhalt oder Aussehen andert. Die Urspriinge von ISO 8613 reichen bis in die friihen achtziger Jahre zuriickj damals begann man, sich mit der Entwicklung von Normen zum Dokumentaustausch zu beschaftigen. Die eigentlichen Vorarbeiten zu ISO 8613 begannen 1982 in der European Computer Manufacturers As­ sociation (ECMA), von der im Jahre 1985 die ECMA-Norm 101 (' Office Document Architecture ') verabschiedet wurde, die schon die wesentlichen Konzepte von ISO 8613 enthielt. (Inzwischen wurde ECMA 101 wieder an ISO 8613 angeglichen.
