Ao longo dos anos, a expressão clínica da doença celíaca alterou-se significativamente. A diarreia é menos predominante: a sua frequência diminuiu de 90% dos sintomas aquando do diagnóstico durante o período 1979-1983 para menos de 70% durante o período 2004-2008. Por outro lado, a frequência de atraso no crescimento aumentou de 23% em 1999-2003 para 35% em 2004-2008.A doença celíaca evoluiu gradualmente de uma doença digestiva rara dos lactentes para uma doença sistémica frequente que afecta todas as fases da vida.A sua incidência sintomática validada só na wilaya de Oran é de 2,5 ± 1,3 por 1 000 nados-vivos. Esta incidência está provavelmente subestimada devido à falta de estudos sero-epidemiológicos prospectivos baseados no rastreio ativo com marcadores serológicos na população em geral.Esta incidência crescente justifica um conhecimento exato, no nosso contexto, do perfil clínico, biológico e histológico dos doentes celíacos jovens e dos seus resultados a longo prazo.Com a amável contribuição de : Pr TOUHAMI MAHMOUD, Pr BOUDRAA GHAZALIA.
