Per l’identificazione umana, l’uso del DNA (regioni STR) è attualmente considerato estremamente importante per risolvere situazioni che coinvolgono questioni penali, così come quelle relative alla paternità. L’uso di questi marcatori continua a rivoluzionare il campo legale e penale. Sulle scene del crimine, la ricerca di materiale biologico che possa fornire materiale genetico per gli studi forensi è ampiamente utilizzata e ha un alto grado di successo. Per questo motivo, il DNA è divenuto una prova materiale inoppugnabile e ha rivoluzionato e continua a rivoluzionare le indagini penali, distinguendosi non solo per perseguire i criminali, ma anche come prova inconfutabile utilizzata per scagionare persone ingiustamente accusate. Pertanto, vista l’importanza sociale dell’argomento, questo lavoro ha cercato di portare lo stato dell’arte sulla genetica forense e sull’applicazione dei marcatori molecolari umani per l’identificazione forense di campioni provenienti da scene del crimine, contribuendo alla delucidazione di un caso criminale in cui sono stati effettuati test del DNA sui resti di un cadavere rinvenuto come vittima di smembramento.
