Les analgésiques opioïdes constituent le pilier de la prise en charge de la douleur chez les patients, en particulier dans le cadre des soins palliatifs à l’échelle mondiale. On observe aujourd’hui une augmentation du nombre de patients atteints de cancer, notamment en lien avec le VIH/sida et d’autres types de cancer. La présente étude qualitative rétrospective, basée sur l’analyse des dossiers médicaux, porte sur les analgésiques opioïdes ; elle a été menée afin de déterminer les analgésiques opioïdes disponibles et leurs tendances de consommation au Rwanda sur une période de cinq ans, de 2008 à 2012. Elle dresse un portrait de l’utilisation des opioïdes au Rwanda dans la prise en charge de la douleur des patients. Les résultats sont très intéressants et laissent entrevoir un avenir prometteur pour le programme de soins palliatifs rwandais.
