Discovery of the Yosemite, and the Indian War of 1851, Which Led to That Event is a historical book written by Lafayette Houghton Bunnell and published in 1880. The book describes Bunnell’s experiences as a member of the Mariposa Battalion, a group of California volunteers who were sent to suppress a Native American uprising in the Sierra Nevada mountains in 1851. During the expedition, Bunnell and his fellow soldiers stumbled upon the Yosemite Valley, a breathtaking natural wonder that had never been seen by outsiders before. Bunnell was so impressed by the beauty of the valley that he named many of its landmarks, including Yosemite Falls and El Capitan. In addition to describing the discovery of Yosemite, the book also provides a detailed account of the conflict between the Mariposa Battalion and the Native American tribes in the region. Bunnell describes the battles that took place, the tactics used by both sides, and the aftermath of the conflict. Discovery of the Yosemite, and the Indian War of 1851, Which Led to That Event is an important historical document that sheds light on the early history of California and the interactions between Native Americans and European settlers. It is also a fascinating account of the discovery of one of America’s most beloved national parks. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
