La legge ivoriana prevede la trasmissione della nazionalità ivoriana. La nazionalità si trasmette per via consanguinea, ma anche nel corso della vita, in quanto può essere acquisita per matrimonio, adozione, naturalizzazione, reintegrazione e, eccezionalmente, per dichiarazione.La nazionalità, sebbene acquisita, può essere persa. Tale perdita è soggetta a condizioni ben definite dal legislatore ivoriano e segue una procedura debitamente stabilita.Attraverso alcune disposizioni, il legislatore tende a rifiutare implicitamente il principio della doppia cittadinanza (articolo 48, paragrafo 1, della legge del 1961), mentre alcune disposizioni inducono a credere il contrario (articoli 51 e 52 della legge del 1961). Sarebbe quindi più corretto che il legislatore dichiarasse espressamente questo rifiuto.
