New ways of communicating, making information available and disseminating it have led to transformations in all areas of knowledge. Analyzing the style of the Information Society in which we live, we see that the volume of information in digital media is growing rapidly. There is a pressing need to better manage this information. Ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary libraries have and will continue to have the same mission, the organization of human knowledge, but in the face of the new tools available and a new socio-economic, cultural and technological context, they are expanding their possibilities of action and are also being included as an access point on the Internet, through digital libraries. In this context, the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) has emerged as an option for disseminating the scientific production of the Postgraduate Programs of Brazilian Public Universities. The emergence of a new library model, called Digital Libraries, is an example of how technology has boosted the process of disseminating knowledge in the contemporary world.
