Mehr als drei Viertel der Gesamtbevölkerung von Uttarakhand leben von der Landwirtschaft, und die Wirtschaft ist überwiegend von der Berglandwirtschaft abhängig. Die Landbesitze sind jedoch klein und zersplittert, und die Bewässerungsmöglichkeiten sind begrenzt. Frauen sind die Gestalterinnen und Erbauerinnen des Schicksals jeder Nation. Sie gelten als das Rückgrat des ländlichen Raums. Der Anteil der weiblichen Arbeitskräfte außerhalb der eigenen vier Wände ist in ländlichen Gebieten größer als in den Städten Indiens. Der Wohlstand und das Wachstum einer Nation hängen vom Status und der Entwicklung ihrer Frauen ab, da diese nicht nur fast die Hälfte der Bevölkerung ausmachen, sondern auch das Wachstum der übrigen Hälfte der Bevölkerung positiv beeinflussen. Vor dem Hintergrund der oben genannten Fakten wurde diese Studie durchgeführt, um die Nutzung ausgewählter Kommunikationsmedien durch Landwirte als Quellen für landwirtschaftliche Informationen in der nordwestlichen Himalaya-Region des Bundesstaates Uttarakhand zu bewerten. Die spezifischen Ziele der Studie sind die Ermittlung der sozioökonomischen Merkmale der Landwirte, die Untersuchung der verschiedenen von den Landwirten genutzten Massenmedien und die Bestimmung des Zusammenhangs zwischen der Nutzung der Massenmedien und den sozioökonomischen Merkmalen der Landwirte.
