In diesem Buch wird Chinas Präsenz in Nigeria untersucht, ein Fall von Kolonialismus oder einer Win-Win-Strategie. Zu den spezifischen Zielen der Studie gehörten die Untersuchung der Initiativen, die China ergreift, um seinen Einfluss in Nigeria zu vergrößern, die Feststellung, ob das bilaterale Handelsabkommen zwischen Nigeria und China den chinesischen Handel mit Nigeria erhöht hat, und die Feststellung, ob Chinas Geschichte in Nigeria Neokolonialismus oder eine Win-Win-Strategie darstellt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass es ein Handelsungleichgewicht zwischen den beiden Ländern gibt. Allerdings haben sowohl chinesische als auch nigerianische Unternehmen stark von den chinesischen Wirtschaftsbemühungen in Nigeria profitiert. Wichtige Infrastrukturprojekte wurden dank chinesischer Beiträge gebaut, was beiden Ländern wirtschaftliche Vorteile brachte. Chinesische Unternehmen haben auch nigerianischen Arbeitnehmern Zugang zu Spitzentechnologie und Schulungen verschafft und so die Entwicklung einer neuen Generation kompetenter und geschulter Arbeitskräfte gefördert. Im Hinblick auf das Handelsungleichgewicht müsste Nigeria die Erfolge und Misserfolge einiger anderer Länder, die früher mit China in Verbindung standen, sowie deren eigene Wachstumsstrategien als Vorbild nehmen, um einen vernünftigen Ansatz zur Lösung des Ungleichgewichts in der nigerianischen Wirtschaft zu finden.
