Dort findet es als anodische Halbzelle Verwendung in einer semiartifiziellen, lichtgetriebenen Biobatterie für die zukünftige Gewinnung von elektrischem Strom und Biowasserstoff. Durch die Auswahl eines geeigneten Polymers und die Optimierung der Elektroden-Präparation kann das Potential dem der Akzeptorseite des PS 2 angepasst werden, was zu einer 80-fachen Verbesserung im Vergleich zum zuvor existierenden System führt.
