Christin Czaplicki untersucht die  Kombination von Pflege- und Erwerbsarbeit aus einer lebensverlaufstheoretischen Perspektive. Die Autorin verknüpft die soziologische Pflegeforschung mit der Lebensverlaufsforschung, wodurch eine Theoretisierung der Bedeutung von zeitlichen Aspekten einerseits und individuellen Entscheidungsprozessen andererseits erfolgt. Unter Rückgriff auf Verfahren der Sequenz- und Clusteranalyse werden typische Strukturen und Muster in den Pflege- und Erwerbssequenzen von pflegenden Männern und Frauen herausgearbeitet und miteinander verglichen. Im Ergebnis wird durch diese methodische Vorgehensweise nachgewiesen, dass die Kombination von Pflege- und Erwerbsarbeit maßgeblich von biografischen Selektionseffekten und Pfadabhängigkeiten beeinflusst wird.
