Ziel ist es, neue Erkenntnisse darüber zu gewinnen, inwiefern Zentralbanken und Geschäftsbanken im Euroraum durch die neuen Zahlungsmittel jeweils positiv oder negativ beeinflusst werden. Dabei wird zunächst das Bankensystem ohne diese Einflüsse untersucht, um anschließend den Einfluss der digitalen Zahlungsmittel auf die einzelnen Teilnehmer und Geschäftsfelder zu analysieren.Im Bereich des digitalen Zentralbankgeldes ergeben sich Auswirkungen nicht nur für den Emittenten selbst, sondern auch für Geschäftsbanken – sowohl im positiven, gewinnbringenden Bereich als auch im negativen. Im Bereich des digitalen Privatgeldes fallen aufgrund der geringeren Marktgröße im Vergleich zu den umlaufenden Währungen die überwiegend negativen Auswirkungen weniger stark aus.
