Pongamia pinnata Pierre (Fabaceae) ist eine Heilpflanze, die in den Western Ghats beheimatet ist und hauptsächlich in den Gezeitenwäldern Indiens vorkommt. Sie ist allgemein als Karanj bekannt und wird in den traditionellen indischen Medizinsystemen Ayurveda und Siddha zur Behandlung verschiedener menschlicher Krankheiten eingesetzt. Es handelt sich um eine Pflanze mit fundiertem ethnobotanischem Hintergrund. In der vorliegenden Studie wurden der Gesamtphenolgehalt, der Gesamtflavonoidgehalt und das antioxidative Potenzial von P. pinnata-Blatt- und Stängelextrakten mit fünf verschiedenen Methoden untersucht. Außerdem wurden die Verbindungen in methanolischen Blatt- und Stängelextrakten mithilfe spektrophotometrischer Methoden wie UV-Absorption und IR-Spektroskopie charakterisiert.
