She was working for Kelly Services, a temporary, secretarial job placement agency in 1969, and had always done secretarial work, and decided she wanted an assignment that was more exciting, something with more 'meat' to it, is what she told the agency, with lots of people contact. When Kelly Services offered her a social work position, where she would have a bodyguard at the Salvation Army in Pontiac, Michigan, a decaying city in the mid 1970s, she felt it fit the bill perfectly; and, found it did.She loved being able to assist the needy, and homeless, because she found it was so exciting, and rewarding; and, she appreciated the Army's trust by allowing her a 'hands on' freedom to help. She felt newspaper articles, about a homeless person, could not adequately describe the feeling of actually being in the same room with that homeless person, and talking with them. The book is written in diary form, and describes the variety of people, and problems she encountered, from being involved in extreme danger, to filling orders for bedding, and kitchen chairs. This book the author hopes, will give the reader the feeling of being there with the hungry, and homeless, and possibly make someone want to take action to help the people in their community. She felt it was a life changing experience that increased her awareness of her many blessings, and said she will never forget, but for the grace of God, walk I.

I was told to change immediately, or else, by a visit to a doctor. I did not like the “or else”. It scared me. It was as simple as A-B-C, what I had to change immediately all because of one visit. He changed my life complet...
