The liver may be damaged by asthma, diabetes, alcohol consumption and also from chronic obstructive disease. Smoking causes architectural changes and leads to the malfunctioning of the organ. Smoking increases oxidative stress, chronic inflammation in the tissues and also enhances the production of stress kinases, inflammatory cytokines and lipid peroxidation which ultimately injures the liver.
