La composition du verre borosilicaté dopé avec du silicofluorure de sodium a été améliorée afin d’obtenir un produit plus raffiné, exempt de grains, de bulles et de cordons. L’ajout du composé fluoré a accéléré la fusion du verre, mais la viscosité et la tension superficielle ont été réduites. De nombreuses variations ont été apportées à la composition standard du verre borosilicaté (7740) afin de développer une nouvelle composition pouvant être fondue dans des conditions économiques. Les fours électriques équipés d’un système d’agitation étaient très coûteux, ce qui rendait impossible pour le Pakistan de développer un verre aussi onéreux. Un four à gaz sans système d’agitation à température relativement plus basse a donc été utilisé pour la fusion de ces verres à la place du four électrique. Ce verre a été développé pour la première fois au Pakistan à l’échelle du laboratoire, avec les ressources et les installations disponibles dans notre pays.
