La mondialisation de la scolarisation est devenue un axe fort de recherche dans le domaine de l’éducation internationale. Cependant, peu d’universitaires se sont véritablement penchés sur des modèles concrets d’écoles mondialisées. Deux siècles d’enseignement français à New York présente l’histoire des écoles françaises hors de France, et plus particulièrement des écoles françaises à New York, et vise à souligner que le réseau de plus de 490 écoles françaises dans 130 pays constitue un champ de recherche fructueux sur la mise en pratique de la mondialisation au sein de l’enseignement primaire et secondaire.Une étude de cas du Lycée Français de New York (1935 - aujourd’hui) et d’autres écoles françaises à New York explore le fonctionnement du système éducatif national français non seulement au-delà de ses frontières hexagonales, mais aussi au-delà de la mission civilisatrice coloniale mise en place dans les territoires colonisés par la France. L’histoire de ces écoles new-yorkaises, remontant au début du XIXe siècle, propose également un aperçu de la diplomatie culturelle française et de la nature changeante des relations franco-américaines au cours des XIXe, XXe et XXIe siècles.
