Esta investigação está interessada em compreender os factores subjacentes à decisão de selecionar um currículo específico de TIC para um determinado ano de escolaridade no sistema escolar. A hipótese aqui é que as razões para tal seleção consideram diversos contextos e factores, incluindo culturais (comportamento, cognição), organizacionais, políticos e estratégicos. Com isto em mente, a investigação analisa a literatura relevante e tenta lançar mais luz sobre as experiências de diferentes países ocidentalizados do mundo, incluindo os EUA, a Alemanha e a Austrália. O que pode ser sintetizado a partir desta literatura é que as experiências diferem muito entre os diferentes países. A investigação projecta esta experiência, descrevendo em pormenor o que cada país adoptou nas suas escolas e as razões pelas quais isso aconteceu. As implicações decorrentes dos diferentes países também são destacadas. No entanto, a investigação neste domínio é simultaneamente escassa e confusa. Assim, esta investigação tentará, através da revisão da literatura, modelos e ferramentas relevantes, gerar conhecimentos relativos às melhores directrizes curriculares em matéria de TIC que se adaptem às necessidades das escolas secundárias nos EAU, numa perspetiva institucional.
