Este livro baseia-se na investigação sobre o impacto dos determinantes básicos da procura agregada de importações no Paquistão, utilizando dados amostrais de 19 anos e aplicando o método dos mínimos quadrados ordinários. As estimativas quantitativas revelaram que as importações do Paquistão são mais sensíveis ao rendimento real e comparativamente menos sensíveis aos preços de importação. As elasticidades estimadas indicam que as importações são sensíveis à renda real (1,85) e que o valor da elasticidade-preço da procura por importações no Paquistão é (-0,66). Assim, a elasticidade-renda da procura por importações é maior do que a elasticidade-preço no caso do Paquistão. A elasticidade relativamente pequena da procura de importações do Paquistão deve-se principalmente às elevadas pressões inflacionárias internas e sugere que as políticas cambiais no Paquistão provavelmente não serão eficazes para lidar com o défice da balança de pagamentos.
