O conceito de educação geral está na boca de todos, mas é frequentemente utilizado num contexto errado. Neste trabalho, são analisadas mais detalhadamente as teses de Wilhelm von Humboldt e Wolfgang Klafki. Ambos debruçaram-se intensamente sobre o conceito de educação geral e elaboraram propostas destinadas a reformar o sistema educativo de forma a integrar a educação geral no ensino. Além disso, é feita referência ao currículo austríaco, uma vez que este foi reformulado em 2023. Os resultados mostram que não existe uma definição uniforme para o conceito de educação geral. Embora o currículo inclua conteúdos de educação geral, estes não são designados como tal. Devido ao conceito desatualizado de educação geral, está em discussão a possibilidade de abolir o termo na sua forma original e reformulá-lo completamente.
