Este estudo foi realizado com o objetivo de identificar os principais desafios e oportunidades da banca eletrónica na Etiópia, no caso dos bancos Awash e Dashen. Para a recolha de dados junto dos bancos incluídos na amostra, foi utilizada uma conceção de investigação descritiva e métodos mistos de abordagem. Simultaneamente, foram selecionados 200 inquiridos de cada um dos dois bancos através de técnicas de amostragem estratificada. Foram utilizados questionários estruturados e entrevistas para recolher os dados primários. A análise dos dados foi efectuada com recurso ao software estatístico SPSS e, para examinar o efeito, foram utilizadas estatísticas descritivas com média, desvio-padrão e percentagem. O estudo revelou a existência de oportunidades para a expansão da tecnologia de banca eletrónica, tais como: a melhoria dos hábitos bancários da população e o empenho do governo em fortalecer o sector bancário. No entanto, a adaptação do e-banking foi dificultada por diferentes desafios. Estes desafios resultaram de três factores genéricos principais, nomeadamente ambientais, técnicos e organizacionais, e estes factores trouxeram os seus próprios desafios específicos e imediatos.
