Im heutigen Nigeria ist das nachlassende Interesse an Kunst und deren Wertschätzung ein Phänomen, das Museen und Kulturerbezentren ernsthafte Sorgen bereitet. Das künstlerische und kulturelle Erbe gedeiht nur durch eine angemessene Sammlung, Dokumentation und Bewahrung. Daher besteht die Rolle des Museums darin, zu sammeln, zu dokumentieren, auszustellen, zu forschen und zu interpretieren, unter anderem zu Zwecken der Erhaltung, Bildung und Entwicklung. Das Hauptziel des Autors ist es, die Situation des Nationalmuseums Owerri zu untersuchen. In einem Versuch, dies als kunsthistorische Arbeit zu erreichen, untersucht der Autor das Ausmaß, in dem dieses Museum in der Lage ist, seine Ziele zu erfüllen, indem er eine aktuelle Ausstellung mit dem Titel Igbo Household (Ezi na ulo ndi Igbo) bespricht.
