Hierbei werden die Neuerungen, die Basel II mit sich bringt, und deren Auswirkungen auf den Leverage-Effekt sowie die finanzwirtschaftlichen Strategien der Unternehmen Gegenstand einer Untersuchung sein. Dabei wird besonders auf die Herausforderungen für kleine und mittelständische Betriebe eingegangen und außerdem ein Augenmerk auf die steuerrechtliche Abzugsfähigkeit von Zinsaufwendungen und deren Einfluss auf den Leverage-Effekt gelegt. Zunächst gilt es aber den Begriff Leverage-Effekt zu definieren.
