Die anderen, weniger offensichtlichen Ebenen und Bestandteile des Ost - West - Konflikts gerieten angesichts der allgegenwärtigen Gefahr, die von der nuklearen Hochrüstung der Supermächte ausging, aus dem Blickfeld. Sie sind jedoch grundlegend für die Entstehung des Ost - West - Konflikts und seinen Fortbestand über fünfzig Jahre hinweg.
