Dieses Buch beschreibt die Quellen sozialer Unterstützung und identifiziert Faktoren, die mit Depressionen bei älteren Militärveteranen in Vietnam in Verbindung stehen. Die Ergebnisse dieses Buches zeigen, dass die Familie eine wichtige Quelle der Unterstützung für ältere Veteranen darstellt. Die Unterstützung durch die Familie stand in einem signifikanten Zusammenhang mit dem Depressionsstatus, während es keinen signifikanten Zusammenhang zwischen der Unterstützung durch Freunde oder die Lebenspartnerin und dem Depressionsstatus gab. Der Depressionsstatus älterer Veteranen hing mit Kriegsverletzungen, funktionellen Behinderungen und sozialer Unterstützung zusammen.
