O enfarte do miocárdio é uma grande urgência diagnóstica e terapêutica. É uma doença que tem vindo a aumentar e o tabagismo é apontado como um dos principais factores causais. O objetivo deste estudo foi, portanto, comparar a síndrome coronária aguda em fumadores e não fumadores do ponto de vista clínico e terapêutico, descrever as características dos seus hábitos tabágicos e os resultados de uma estratégia de cessação tabágica.Verificou-se que os factores mais preditivos de uma cessação tabágica eficaz foram as tentativas anteriores de cessação e a idade tardia de início do tabagismo.
