Avec l’avènement de l’ humanisme dans les années 1960, l’enseignement conventionnel centré sur l’autorité de l’enseignant a cédé la place à un mode d’éducation centré sur l’apprenant. Ainsi, aujourd’hui, la variable la plus importante dans l’enseignement d’une langue (y compris la lecture) est l’approche individuelle dans la salle de classe. La théorie de l’intelligence multiple (IM) suggère qu’il n’existe pas une seule mesure concrète de l’intelligence et, par conséquent, une seule méthode d’enseignement, mais plusieurs : Mathématique-Logique, Linguistique-Verbal, Musical, Spatial, Interpersonnel, Intrapersonnel, Corporel-Kinesthésique et Naturaliste. L’objectif de cet ouvrage est d’appliquer les conclusions de cette théorie à l’enseignement de la lecture afin d’améliorer la qualité des compétences en lecture et la motivation à lire dans le cadre de l’enseignement de l’anglais.
