Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472) est un célèbre humaniste. Il fut écrivain, philosophe, peintre, mathématicien, et théoricien tant de la peinture que de la sculpture, ce qui est l’objet du présent traité. Son De Pictura date de 1436 et son De Statua de 1464. La perspective développée dans le De Statua en fait un texte précurseur de l’image numérique moderne.Claudius Popelin (1825-1892) fut le préfacier et le traducteur du plusieurs traités sur les arts anciens dont les trois libvres de l’art du potier de Cyprian Piccolpassi, texte bien connu des alchimistes. Il est enfin le traducteur du Songe de Poliphile texte aux origines de la Renaissance.
