Dr. H.F. Kohlbrugge 1803-1875, had grote achting voor de Catechismus. Hij stelde in 1846 een overzicht op van de hele Catechismus in vragen en antwoorden; de zgn. Leer des Heils.Een groot aantal preken uit de Catechismus heeft dr. Kohlbrugge nagelaten, waarvan de meeste in het Nederlands vertaald zijn. Ze zijn vol van geestelijke lering, diepgaande kennis van de Heilige Schrift, levende bevinding, die door de Heilige Geest gewerkt werd. Door zware kruiswegen geoefend, geven zijn preken troostvolle leringen vanuit de School van Jezus.''Hoezeer deze man Gods onze Heidelbergse Catechismus achtte en liefhad is algemeen bekend. Ds Künzli deelde ons ’s Zondags na het verscheiden van Dr Kohlbrugge de woorden mee die deze nog op zijn sterfbed sprak: ’De Heidelberger! De eenvoudige Heidelberger! Houdt daaraan vast, mijn kinderen! Uit uzelf kunt ge geen enkele waarheid verstaan, maar deze Catechismus bevat alles, zoals ik het u heb onderwezen.’''
